Whyite Avenue in Edmonton in morning sunshine

Came to Whyte Avenue to paint  early in the morning before heavy traffic on the street started to rush by. Met a gentleman with Romania Roma origin to chat with me and he even offered me a Lonnie for my efforts.

The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald Edmonton Canada

Sarah drove us to Downtown Edmonton to visit the farmers market there. The view of the Fairmont Hotel there delineates a striking profile against morning light. I decided to stop there to paint instead of visiting the market.

MKT Fresh Food & Beer Market on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton

I remember painting this view a few years ago when the building  was called  Iron Horse Bar. Drove all the way to Edmonton to spend some time with Sarah who lived only a short distance from Whyte Avenue. Had a nice chat with the owner of a barber's shop across the street who moved to Edmonton from Beirut, Lebanon.

After a shower of rain

My last sketch of the lone poplar tree from the back alley

Have painted sketches of the lone poplar tree in the back alley numerous times over the last ten years. Not realizing that it would be my last sketch of it when I painted again on June 18. When we came back from our week long trip two days ago, we found it  uprooted by the strong wind in the summer downpour which ravaged Manitoba during our absence.

Brandon University original building in the summer

As my 23rd anniversary of living in Canada comes soon in a few days, I came back to Brandon University campus again to paint. The campus is a picture of absolute serenity which is only broken obsessionally by the cheerful sound from a wedding party and cheerful voices from  few young kids riding their bikes around.
